TOWSON, Md. - Juniors
Becky Cuddahee (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and
Monie Cuddahee (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and senior
Liz Coblentz (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) and junior
Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) each picked up a doubles win at the Goucher Invitational this weekend.
In the opening round of the first flight of doubles, Becky Cuddahee and Monie Cuddahee defeated Hilary Fast and Andrea Stephaich from Goucher with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Becky Cuddahee and Monie Cuddahee won against Richard Stockton's Ana Estevez and Kate Bechs in the semi-finals (6-4, 6-1).
In the finals, Becky Cuddahee and Monie Cuddahee picked up the victory against Melissa Emery and Anna Meola from Morvian with scores of 7-5, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-5).
Coblentz and Shedd defeated Goucher's Vickey Casey and Ilana Gross in the second flight doubles first round (6-0, 6-0). The duo picked up the semi-finals victory against Olivia Shapiro and Rachel Scutti from Richard Stocken (6-3, 6-1). Coblentz and Shedd won the finals against Amy Bream and Elissa Swartz from Penn State Erie with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).
Senior
Sarah Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) was runner-up in flight one of the singles competition. She defeated Erin Fallon from Gwynedd-Mercy in the first round with scores of 6-3, 6-3 and Goucher's Tanya Cooley in the semifinals with scores of 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Eisel advanced to the finals where she lost to Jami Fein from Moravian by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
In the number two singles competition, sophomore
Vicky Stafford (Lee, N.H./Oyster River) picked up six place after being defeated by Mouna Attarha from Goucher with scores of 6-3, 6-3.
Stafford lost to Morvavian's Mary Kate Kelly in the first round of the competition (6-0, 6-0) but defeated Maura Bernstein from Stevenson in the consolation finals to advance to the 5th/6th place match.
Freshman
Jannill Sites (Waynesboro, Pa./James Buchanan) placed eighth in the number three singles competition after Stevenson's Sarah Searing with scores of 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).
Sites lost in the opening round to Penn State Erie's Hillary Lasher (6-1, 6-1) and in the consolation match to Moravian's Kerry McKinley (6-3, 6-0).
Sophomore
Theresa Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) captured sixth place in the number four singles competition, after dropping the match to Mara Bergman from Goucher (6-4, 6-3).
In the first round, Mills was defeated by Moravian's Alexandra Hay (6-3, 6-0) but picked up the win in the consolation match against Richard Stockton's Nicole Rodriguez (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4)) to advance to the 5th/6th place match.
FSU is back in action on October 13 at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche at 3:00 pm.
