FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's tennis team swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College, 9-0, on Wednesday. FSU has an overall record of 7-8 and a conference record of 5-2.
Seniors
Sarah Eisel (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and
Liz Coblentz (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) along with junior
Caroline Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown) and sophomore
Vicky Stafford (Lee, N.H./Oyster River) all had two wins on the day.
In the number one doubles match, Eisel and Stafford captured their first victory against Christina Shields and Chiara Irakoze (8-3). Juniors
Becky Cuddahee (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and
Monie Cuddahee (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) picked up the win in the second doubles match against Cari David and Nikki Flahtery (8-1). Shedd and Coblentz defeated Carolyn Shields and Chia-Fang Wu
with a score of 8-1 in the number three doubles match.
Eisel captured the first singles match victory against Christina Shields with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Shedd defeated Irakoze in the second singles match (6-3, 6-2) and Stafford won the third singles match against David (6-3, 6-0).
In the number four singles match, freshman
Jannill Sites (Waynesboro, Pa./James Buchanan) defeated Flahtery (6-2, 6-1) and in the number five singles match Coblentz picked up the victory against Carolyn Shield (6-1, 6-3). Sophomore
Theresa Mills (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) captured the number six singles victory against Chia-Fang Wu with scores of 6-0, 6-2.
