FROSTBURG, Md. –
Kierstin Stevenson (Frostburg, Md./Beall) provided all the firepower the Frostburg State women’s soccer team needed to defeat Widener, 1-0 in the opening round of the ECAC South Regional Tournament, Wednesday afternoon.
The first half saw FSU (15-2-3) on the attack for the majority of the time as the Bobcats outshot the Pride (11-6-2) eight to one.
In the second half, the offense kept up the pressure on Widener with Stevenson netting her second goal of the season at the 59:49 mark. Sophomore
Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) provided the assist for the goal as she fed Stevenson from the left side.
Freshman goalkeeper
Michelle Buckmaster (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) provided a solid performance with three saves on the afternoon.
The Bobcats outshot the Pride 12-4 in the contest.
FSU returns to the field on Saturday as they host the ECAC Tournament semi-finals. The No. 1 seed Bobcats will face off against No. 4 seed Dickinson at noon.
