STEVENSON, Md. – Three players scored in double figures and the Frostburg State women's basketball team defeated Stevenson 51-47 in it's season opener, Tuesday evening.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) led the Bobcats with 11 points while junior sophomore
Mercedes White (Bowie, Md./Bowie) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) added 10 points and classmates
Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) and
Shanell Williams (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) pulled down 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
FSU shot just 21.7 percent from the floor (15-of-69) but used a 70-39 rebounding advantage including a 40-11 edge on the offensive end.
Frostburg State appeared to have the game in hand in the opening half after leading by a game-high 18 points (34-16) with 1:26 left until halftime. The Bobcats held a 14-0 edge in second chance points in the opening stanza after leading 19-1 in offensive rebounding. The visitors also used a 21-9 advantage in bench points to lead 34-22 at the break.
In the second half, Stevenson (0-2) slowly chipped away at the Bobcat lead, bringing the deficit to within nine points (41-32) at 9:25. Over the next seven minutes, the Mustangs went on a 12-2 run to take their first lead of the contest at 44-43.
From there, neither team appeared poised to take over the contest as the Bobcats missed 12 free throws and Stevenson committed 13 fouls down the stretch. However, Williams, Wright and Carrington each made two foul shots inside the final 2:13 to keep FSU in the lead. Wright made the game's final two free throws with just four seconds left to give FSU the win.
Stevenson rebounded and played much better in the second half. The hosts led the Bobcats in bench points (11-5) and limited FSU to just eight second-chance points despite the fact that Frostburg State led 21-10 in offensive rebounding.
The Bobcats return to action this weekend when they host the annual Jim Crawley Tournament at Bobcat Arena on Friday and Saturday.
