ERIE, Pa. - Senior
Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) captured first place and a conference title as the Frostburg State men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships, Saturday. The women's team placed second after a strong showing and the men's team finished in third place.
For the women, Franciscan took home the overall title for the second year in a row with 25 points while the Bobcat women finished with 40 points to secure second place. Massey was the top individual runner for the women as she crossed the line in first place with a time of 24:17.3.
Sophomore
Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) finished in fourth place with a time of 24:50.2 and junior Jessica O'Neil (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) placed tenth wtih a time of 27:12.4. Massey, Patron and O'Neil all earned All-AMCC honors with their top fifteen finishes on the day.
Finishing next for the FSU women's squad was freshman
Lydia Valenta (Frostburg, Md. / Homeschool) in 12th place (27:26.9) followed by senior
Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) in 13th place, who crossed the line at 27:27.9. Valenta and Aumand finished off the All-AMCC honors with their top fifteen place times. Freshman Christina McCormick (Ellicot City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) rounded off the top six runners for the Bobcats wtih a 31st place finish (29:57.6) to complete the women's team scoring.
Penn State Behrend captured its third-straight AMCC title for the men with just 17 points. Franciscan placed second with 57 points and the Bobcat men finished in third place with 77 points. The top individual time went to Kevin Gorny of Penn State Behrend with a time of 28:58.5.
Pacing the men was sophomore
Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) with an individual fifth-place finish (29:19.3), while earning All-AMCC honors for the second-straight year.
Sophomore
Jesse Henderson (Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) finished second for FSU men's squad in 18th place overall with a time of 31:25.9. Junior
Kevin Wright (Silver Spring, Md./Oakton) followed close behind Henderson finishing 20th (31:37.2) while sophomore
Nick Weddle (Baltimore, Md./Northeast) captured 23rd with a time of 31:50.0.
Senior
Dustin Eagle (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) and sophomores
Max Maier (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area Senior) and
Calvin Shriver (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) were the final finishers for FSU. Eagle placed in 25th (32:01.3), Maier in 30th (32:40.7) and Shriver in 36th (33:08.5).
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional Championships in Bethlehem, Pa.
