MORGANTOWN, W Va.- The men's and women's track and field teams opened their seasons at the West Virginia University Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Results
Junior
Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) captured second place in the triple jump with a mark of 10.85 meters. She also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.34) and tied for seventh place in the high jump (1.52 meters).
Joining Furr in the field events was senior
Kayla Peters (Dunkirk, Md./Northern), who tied for eighth place in the weight throw with a mark of 11.19 meters.
Sophomore
Amy Brennan (Fort Washington, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) finished in tenth place in the 55-meter dash (7.79) while freshman
Sierra Wassell placed fifth in the one mile run with a time of 6:56.72.
For the men, sophomore
Sean Wright (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) captured second place in the 500-meter run (1:10.02) while classmate
Tyler Scruggs (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) finished in fourth place with a time of 1:10.97. Sophomore
Thomas Bennett (Lutherville, Md./Towson) placed fifth (1:12.94) in the 500-meter run and classmate
Isiah Valentine (Washington D.C./James Hubert Blake) captured sixth (1:28.32).
In the 200-meter dash, freshman
Justin Davis (Suitland, Md./Thomas Stone) crossed the line in eighth place with a time of 23.60.
Senior
Steve Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) captured seventh-place in both the 800-meter run (2:06.87) and 60-meter hurdles (9.23).
In the field events, sophomore
Michael Pierce (Lanham, Md./Queen Anne) finished in eighth place in the triple jump (11.18 meters) and classmate
David Thomas placed ninth in the long jump (6.10 meters).
The Bobcats return to action on January 16 at Marietta College at noon.
