Women's Lacrosse Falls to Goucher 18-12

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher College scored ten goals in the second half as it defeated the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team, 18-12, Saturday.

The game was tied five different times in the first half until Goucher (7-6) scored two consecutive goals to break away from Frostburg State with 1:16 remaining in the half. Junior Lindsey Chaffman (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) netted a goal with 53 seconds left until the break to get FSU (6-8) to within one point, 7-6, and Goucher answered with another goal from Marlo Tersigni only twenty seconds later, 8-6.

With only 13 seconds remaining, the Bobcats (6-8) cut the deficit to one goal when freshman Joanna McIntire (Damascus, Md./Damascus) found the back of the net on a free position shot, 8-7.

In the first twelve minutes of the second half, the Gophers used a 7-1 scoring run to enlarge its lead over the Bobcats to 15-8. Frostburg State finished the game with a 4-3 run over Goucher to give the end score 18-12.

Leading the Bobcats was junior Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) with four goals, making this her fourth game in which she has scored four goals this season. Hildebrand was followed by McIntire and freshman Ali Kapustin (Columbia, Md./Marriotts Ridge) each netting two.

Chaffman and freshmen Rachel Frank (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown), Kayla Woodward (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) and Michelle LaGoy (Frostburg, Md./Calvert) all had one goal in the loss to the Gophers.

Mary Lambert found the net for GC four times while Sandy Okun, Tersigni, Becca Smith and Colleen Cole each chipped in three goals.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) had 12 saves on the day while Brittany Foster made six.

The Gophers led in shots (43-23), groundballs (36-32) and draw controls (18-14) in the win over the Bobcats.

Frostburg State returns to action at Washington & Jefferson Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 pm.
