Herford Signs With Harrisburg City Islanders

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Former Frostburg State goalkeeper Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) has been signed by the Harrisburg City Islanders as a part of a six player group that was recently added to the team's 2009 roster.

Herford joins Mo Oduor, Nate Baker, Tomer Chencinski, Jason Massie, and Cody Reinberg as the club's most recent signees.

Herford, who will provide depth to the Islanders in net, was a two-year starter for the Bobcats, helping the team to a 26-14-2 overall record and a 12-4-1 AMCC mark in the last two years. In 2007, FSU advanced to the ECAC South Region Tournament Championship while in 2008, the Bobcats advanced to the ECAC Tournament Semifinals.

Herford, a two-time All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Goalkeeper, finished his senior season ranked second in the league in goals against average (0.77), third in goals allowed (15) and save percentage (0.797) while ninth in saves (59).

Harrisburg City, which finished fifth in the USL Division two standings with a 7-3-10 overall record in 2008, kicks off its 2009 season at the Richmond Kickers on April 18.
