Men's Tennis Defeats Pitt-Greensburg, 9-0

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Frostburg State men's tennis team swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg, 9-0, to improve its conference record to 3-3, Monday.

Freshmen Ryan Miller (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Eddie McMurtrie (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) defeated Clark Lawrie and Phorg Nguyen for a number one doubles victory (8-4), while freshman Steve French (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Mike Hurst won against Matt Huttenlock and Mike Curley in the No. 2 doubles competition (8-0).

Sophomores Josh Galvez (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and Jerry Castillo (Taloma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) picked up the win in the last doubles competition in a forfeit.

In the singles competition, McMurtrie defeated Lawrie in the number one match (6-1, 6-2) and senior Jeff Lesky (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) won against Phong Nguyen in the No. 2 competition (6-1, 6-0).

French defeated Huttenlock with scores of 6-0, 6-1 in the number three singles match, while Galvez picked up his second victory of the day against Curley in the No. 4 singles competition (6-1, 6-1).

Sophomore Phillip Darden (Washington, D.C./Thomas Stone) defeated Nate Clapper in the number five singles match and Castillo rounded out the victories for the Bobcats by winning the No. 6 singles competition by a forfeit.
