Softball Drops AMCC Tournament Opener to Medaille

ERIE, Pa. - Alyssa Zemla smacked a solo homerun over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning to lift Medaille to a slim 1-0 victory over the Frostburg State softball team in the opening game of the 2009 AMCC Tournament, Friday morning.

Zemla finsihed 1-for-3 with two strikeouts but made the most of her only hit as she led off the fourth with her ninth homer of the season. Holley McAllister and Kristen Rohe each finished with two hits for the Mavericks (19-16).

Frostburg State had just three hits in the game; led by a second inning double from freshman Jenna Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge).

Freshman starter Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit) had a strong outing on the mound for the Bobcats (23-16) scattering eight hits while striking out eight in the loss. Amanda Westling earned the win for MC after fanning nine in 7.0 innings or work.

The Bobcats (23-16) return to action in the double elimination tournament tomorrow when they take on No. 4 seed Pitt-Greensburg at approximately 11:00 am.
