MARIETTA, Ohio - In a program steeped in tradition and winning, Frostburg State University track & field seniors
Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) and
Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scot Key) along with sophomore
Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) left their marks on the all-time record books and etched their names into FSU lore on the final day of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor National Championships, Saturday afternoon.
The trio combined for five All-American awards while Rohrs successfully defended her 100-meter hurdle National Championship and added a National Title in the 400-meter hurdles to her list of accolades.
With her two titles, Rohrs set a new school record with sixth National Championships, passing Maynard Hurd who captured five from 1985-87. She now has a total of nine All-American awards and is tied for third all-time in FSU history on the women’s side.
In her first event of the afternoon, Rohrs captured the 100 hurdle title for the second-straight year. She crossed the line in 13.77, setting not only an FSU school record and the Don Drumm Stadium record, but capturing the NCAA Division III season best time as well.
In the 400 hurdles, Rohrs captured first place and set three more records in the process. She set an FSU and Dom Drumm Stadium record and ran another NCAA Division III season best time of 60.05.
Meanwhile, Leiter set a record of his own as he became the school’s first-ever 1,500-meter All-American after finishing third in the event with a time of 3:53.68.
He later earned All-American honors for the second-straight year after finishing sixth in the 800-meter run in 1:51.85. He finishes his career with the Bobcats with three All-American awards, the most in school history in mid-distance events.
Furr, making her first trip to the NCAA Championships, missed the finals in the women’s triple jump after finishing seventh in the first heat, but made the most of her second chance at an All-American award in high jump.
She tied for seventh place with Erin Neville of Wheaton with a height of 1.64 meters and became Frostburg State’s first-ever outdoor All-American on the women’s side in the high jump.
