DALLAS, Pa. - Sophomore Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) hit her 15th homerun of the season but its wasn't enough as Frostburg State surrendered two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lose 4-3 to Misericordia in the 2009 Division III South Softball Championships, Wednesday.

Box Score

FSU (26-17) made just its second-ever trip to the ECAC Tournament. The first happened back in 2004 when Misericordia (25-12) downed the Bobcats 6-2. Misericordia, the defending ECAC South champions, improved to 25-12 and will play at Juniata, Saturday at 10:00 am.

Tapman handed Frostburg State a quick 2-0 lead over the Cougars as she lifted her 15th bomb of the season over the left field fence. FSU was up 3-1 after each team plated one run in the fourth inning. Tapman singled to lead off the fourth and was later driven home on a ground out by freshman Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit).

MU finally got on the board in the bottom half of the frame. Lindsay Miller led off with a single and then stole both second and third base. She later crossed the plate on a passed ball.

The Cougars pulled to within 3-2 in the sixth as Miller scored again, this time on a single from Gina Urbon. MIller scored for the third and final time in the bottom of the seventh inning. With runners on second and third, Hollie Sarnak singled to left, scoring Miller and Courtney Novajosky for the game winning runs.

Tapman recorded both of FSU's hits as she finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Magee suffered the loss on the mound as she struckout nine but allowed four runs, three earned. Katie Eiden earned the victory after tossing 3.0 hitless innings in relief.
