Rohrs Tabbed as USTFCCCA Division III National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year
Sumer Rohrs
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Frostburg State senior hurdler Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) has been tabbed the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Rohrs, a three-time USTFCCCA Mideast Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year and 2009 Female Track Athlete of the Meet for the NCAA Indoor National Championships, is the FSU school record holder with six National Championships during her time with the Bobcats.

Rohrs set the school record after defending her national championship in the 100-meter hurdles and adding a national title in the 400-meter hurdles in mid-May at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of Marietta College. Rohrs won the 100 hurdles for the second-straight season after running the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division III history (13.77). Later in the afternoon, she captured her first title in the 400 hurdles after running the 10th fastest time in Division III history in 60.05. Both times are FSU and Don Drumm Stadium records.

Rohrs entered the finals after setting Don Drumm Stadium records in both events during the trials. She also held the stadium record in both events after competing at the Don Frail Invitational at Marietta on April 5, 2009.

Rohrs earned 10 points for each event victory at the outdoor championships and helped Frostburg State into ninth place with 21.5 points, the school's highest finish since capturing ninth in 1987. The other 1.5 points came from a seventh-place finish in the high jump from sophomore Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville).
