GIBSONIA, Pa. - Freshman Megan Martin (Richmond, Va./Mills Goodwin) earned her first ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week honor for women's tennis, Monday.
Last week, Martin went 5-1 in singles competiton and 2-1 in the doubles. Against Juniata, she defeated Lauren Petrow (6-1, 6-0) in the fourth singles match while Martin and partner freshman Elly Dannenfelser (Joppa, Md./John Carroll) won against Amanda Fontana and Katie Healy in the number one doubles competiton (8-6).
Martin picked up one of only three wins against non-conference opponent Westminster when she defeated Rachel Jack with scores of 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles match.
Martin captured two wins against AMCC opponent and reigning champion Penn State Behrend in the number one doubles match and the No. 4 singles competition. Martin and Dannenfelser defeated Arica Christman and Step Cattron (9-7) and she won her second win against Hilary Lasher (6-4, 6-3).
At the Penn State Behrend Invitational, Martin picked up two wins. She defeated Chatham's Alisa Boslett in the number three singles competition (8-1) and won against Bethany Ragonesi from Geneva (8-1).
The Bobcats went 4-2 last weekend to give them an overall record of 5-2 and they remain undefeated in conference play (2-0).
FSU returns to the court at home against Penn State Altoona September 15 at 4:00 pm.
