Men's Basketball Drops Hilbert in Rout, 97-73

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's basketball squad had four players in double figures and shot 50.0 percent from the floor as it blew past Hilbert 97-73 in AMCC action, Saturday.

The Bobcats (9-5, 6-4) never trailed in the game and improved to 4-1 on the season when shooting over 50.0 percent. The FSU defense turned 28 Hilbert turnovers into 38 points and the Bobcats dominated the inside. Frostburg State outscored Hilbert 64-36 in the paint and held a commanding 50-34 edge in rebounds.

The Bobcats took a double-digit lead for good with 8:43 to play in the first half as FSU surged ahead 32-22. Frostburg State pushed it's edge to a first-half high 17 points three times including a 49-32 halftime lead.

The Bobcats opened the second stanza with a three-pointer that put them up by 20 (52-32). The lead hovered around 20 the rest of the half until FSU captured its largest lead of the contest (24 points) with just 16 seconds to play.

Junior Jamal Bracken (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) led FSU with 20 points followed by classmate Steven Ogg (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) with 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior Nick Sefcik (Shady Grove, Md./Damascus) added 11 points while junior Busha Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) had 10 points and seven boards.

The Bobcats set season highs in baskets made (42), attempts (84) and steals (21) and ended a small two-game skid with the win.

Dan McFarland scored a team-high 19 points for the Hawks (1-13, 0-9), while Chris Parrott and Roman Brown each added 12.

Frostburg State hosts Pitt-Bradford on Monday, January 18 at 3:00 pm.
