Men's Hoops Outgunned by Pitt-Bradford 73-67

FROSTBURG, Md. - Dan Heisey poured in 34 points for Pitt-Bradford and a Frostburg State rally came up just short as the Panthers defeated the Bobcats, 73-67, Monday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

The Bobcats (9-6, 6-5) overcame a 14-point second-half deficit and trailed by just two points with 8:54 to play, but UPB (8-8, 8-3) extended its lead back to 10 (63-53) with just under three to play. FSU brought it back to within four (71-67) with nine seconds left, but Heisey sealed the win with a pair of late free throws.

Frostburg State made four more baskets than Pitt-Bradford (21-17), but the Panthers used a 33-of-45 free throw effort to make up the difference. UPB also held a 47-29 edge in rebounding.

Junior Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) led the Bobcats with 19 points, five steals and four assists while senior Nick Sefcik (Shady Grove, Md./Damascus) added 11 points. Junior Busha Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.

Heisey finished 11-of-15 (73.3%) from the field, 6-of-10 (60.0%) at the foul line along with six 3-pointers. Sam Moore added 16 points and Aaron Stang pulled down 11 boards.

The lead changed hands five times over the first 8:27 in the first half and Pitt-Bradford took the lead for good (12-11) on a Heisey layup at 11:33. FSU held it's largest lead (8-4) at 15:56 when Anderson hit the first of his two three-pointers.

The Panthers extended their first half cushion to 16 (32-16) at 3:07 and coasted into halftime up 10, 32-22. The Panthers held two 14-point leads early in the second half before the Bobcats made a charge over the middle part of the second half.

Frostburg State returns to the floor when it hosts Mt. Aloysius on Thursday, January 21 at 8:00 pm.
