FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, Pitt-Bradford, 71-67, in a hard fought contest between the two teams Monday afternoon in Bobcat Arena.
The Bobcats (11-5, 8-3) opened the game with a layup from junior
Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) just one minute into the game, which was quickly answered by the Panthers (5-11, 5-6) from a Danielle Zeamer's jumpshot. UPB held the advantage until the ninth minute of the game when freshman
Elizabeth Erickson (Bellwood, Pa./Bellwood Antis) took the game back for FSU on a jumpshot, 12-11.
The lead changed hands five more times in the last 11 minutes of the first half until Frostburg State came out on top going into the locker room with an one-point advantage, 30-29.
Pitt-Bradford took the lead back for the Panthers just 42 seconds into play of the second half and would not relinquish the advantage for the rest of the game. Frostburg State would get within one point of UPB with just over six minutes left in regulation, but was not able to over take the Panthers. Freshman
Jackie Kimmel (Berlin, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) hit a thee-pointer at the final buzzer to cut the UPB lead to just four points for a final score, 71-67.
Frostburg State held the advantage of points in the paint over Pitt-Bradford 22-20 and held a 12-9 lead in second chance points.
Carrington led all shooters posting a game-high 23 points while senior
Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) followed behind her with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Bobcats. Maria Costanza led the Panthers with 20 points and four rebounds.
Frostburg State hosts Mount Aloysius on Thursday, January 21 at 6:00 pm at Bobcat Arena.
