Medaille (13-0, 8-0) opened the second half with a 15-6 run that opened a 14-point lead just five minutes into the period. With the Mavericks up 14 (52-38) with 10:19 to play in the game, FSU (8-4, 5-3) began to slowly chip away at the deficit.

Junior Steven Ogg (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) hit a three-pointer from the corner with 2:45 to play as the Bobcats trailed by seven (62-55). After a Maverick turnover, senior Nick Sefcik (Shady Grove, Md./Damascus) hit a three as the hosts cut the Medaille lead to just four (62-58).

The Mavericks, who were 8-of-10 at the foul line inside the final two minutes, used free throws to push their back to seven points with 23 seconds left. However, Sefcik hit back-to-back three-pointers inside the final 16 seconds to pull the Bobcats to within two at 72-70. Sefick was fouled on the second three-pointer and went to the line with a chance to bring FSU to within one. However, he missed the foul shot and Medaille raced down the floor for a layup as time expired.

Sefick led four Bobcat starters in double figures with 20 points, four assists and four three-pointers. Junior Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) was second with 14 points and four assists while junior Terrance Taylor (Oxon Hill, Md./Cornerstone Christian) had 12 and classmate Busha Koffa (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) added 10.

Medaille shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the floor and was 9-of-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Bobcats shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the field and were 7-of-22 (31.8%) from three-point range.

The lead changed hands three times over the first three minutes of action in the first half and Medaille used a small 7-0 jolt for a 14-7 lead at 12:34. Taylor hit a jumper at 9:31 as FSU brought it to within one, 14-13, but the two teams traded three-pointers late in the half and the Mavs led 29-24 at the break.

Ricky Reed led Medaille with 18 points and six rebounds while Keih Hack turned in 12 points and six boards. Mike Berkun added 17 points and a team-high three three-pointers.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday, January 13 when it travels to Pitt-Greensburg 8:00 pm.
