Women's Basketball Suffers First AMCC Loss, Falls to Medaille, 58-72

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women’s basketball team suffered its first loss to an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, as it fell to first place Medaille, 72-58, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobacts now are 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the conference while the Mavericks are 11-2 and 8-0 in the AMCC.

Junior Lisa Byer (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh (Allegany College)) posted a game high 18 points including six three-pointers.

The lead changed a total of five times in the first half as the two teams battled for points until the 11th minute when Medaille took the lead for good off a made free throw by Jordan Schrimmel, 15-14. The Mavericks went on an 11-point run to bring the score to 25-14, and seal the lead going into the half. MC ended the half with a three-point shot from Meghan Dougherty to cap off a five-point run and leave the score 39-24 at the buzzer.

With less than six minutes left to play in the second half, Byer hit two-straight three's to close Medaille's advantage to eight points, 61-53. The Bobcats would cut the score to 63-56 off another three-pointed from Byer, though the Mavericks maintained control of the game with a six-point run to end the game, 72-58.

Senior Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) posted her fourth double-double of the season putting up 13 points and pulling down 11 boards. Senior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech.) followed close behind with her fifth double-double of season adding 10 points and 17 boards. Leading scorer for the Mavericks was Kacie Mills with 18 points and three rebounds.

Frostburg State held a 50-47 rebounding edge over Medaille and was 8-of-22 from beyond the arc while Medaille was only 3-of-11.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday, January 13 when it travels to Pitt-Greensburg at 6:00 pm.
