Pitt-Greensburg Slips Past Women's Basketball 65-63

FROSTBURG, Md. - Kelsey Wilcox hit the game-winning jumper with 31 seconds remaining to hand Pitt-Greensburg a slim 65-63 victory over Frostburg State in women's basketball action, Wednesday.

Wilcox's basket in the final minute of play handed Greensburg (17-7, 15-4) its first lead of the game after Frostburg State (16-7, 13-5) led by as many 14 points late in the first.

FSU used a 17-4 run in the first stanza to break open a 14-14 deadlock and hold a 31-18 edge with 1:53 left. Wilcox hit a pair of late free throws to narrow the gap as Frostburg led 33-21 at the break.

Frostburg State held its lead in double figures over the beginning part of the second half until a 9-2 UPG run brought the visitors to within two at 45-43. FSU pushed its lead back to eight (52-44) at 7:29 but Greensburg slowly chipped away at the deficit. Amanda Shaeffer hit a 3-pointer to tie the contest at 61-61 and Wilcox hit her game winner 37 seconds later.

Senior Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) posted a double-double for the FSU with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) added 19 points while senior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) pulled down seven rebounds.

Wilcox had a game-high 22 points for UPG while Sheaffer recorded 19 points, surpassing the 1,000 career point mark. Wilcox also pulled down 14 boards in the win while Sheaffer had six.

Frostburg State is back in action on Saturday, February 20 against AMCC opponent Hilbert at 1:00 pm for its Pink Zone event.
