Women's Basketball Battles Pitt-Bradford in AMCC Tournament Semifinals

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's basketball team will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on No. 7 seed Pitt-Bradford in the semifinal round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament, Friday February 26 at 3:00 pm.

The Bobcats (19-7, 15-5) defeated No. 6 seed La Roche, 67-65, in a hard fought battle by both teams on Tuesday night, February 23. FSU split regular season play with UPB, winning their first contest, 66-56, back on Nov. 24, but dropped the latest game to the Panthers, 71-67 on Jan. 18.

FSU enters Friday's game on a three-game winning streak that extends back to the last two games of the regular season.

UPB defeated No. 2 seed Pitt-Greensburg in an upset on Tuesday night, 74-63 to advance to the semifinal round. The Panthers finished the regular season 1-1, with a 55-51 loss to Medaille and a regular season finale win over Mt. Aloysius, 82-78.

In Friday's game, senior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) looks to break into the 1,000-point club with classmate Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill). James accomplished the task on Saturday, Feb. 20 in the Bobcats 78-37 win over Hilbert. Wright will be the 16th Bobcat to score over 1,000 points in her career with FSU, and the 11th under the direction of head coach Jody Pepple.

In the first semifinal round game, No.1 seed Medaille (23-2, 20-2) will host fourth seeded Penn State Altoona (20-6, 14-6) at 1:00 pm. PSA defeated No. 5 seed Penn State Behrend 72-63 in the opening round.

The AMCC championship match is scheduled for Saturday, February 27 at 1:00 pm. The AMCC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
