Senior Caryn Wright
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Frostburg State rebounded from an early deficit and battled Pitt-Bradford throughout but the Panthers proved too much in the end and earned a 62-59 hard fought victory in the AMCC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals, Friday afternoon.

Box Score

The Panthers (11-16) held off a feisty Bobcat squad and advanced to the AMCC Tournament Championship contest as the seventh seed. The Panthers knocked off Pitt-Greensburg in the opening round on Tuesday night and will face Medaille tomorrow at 1:00 pm.

FSU senior Caryn Wright (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) netted her 1,000th career point in the contest, joining classmate Brittany James (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) as a member of that elite club. James scored her 1,000th point in FSU’s 78-37 win over Hilbert last weekend.

Wright finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds while James added 17 points and 11 boards. Junior Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) finished with 13.

FSU started flat but rallied from an early 10-2 hole and led by two at 8:55. Pitt-Bradford closed out the first half with an 8-4 run for a 24-20 halftime edge.

The Bobcats trailed by seven points (31-24) early in the second stanza and again rebounded for a five-point lead (38-33). The Bobcats later led by four (46-42) at 4:30 but the Panthers rallied to tie the game three more times over the next several minutes. With FSU up one (53-52) at 1:11, Maggie Dalton hit a 3-pointer with 36 seconds left to give UPB the lead for good (55-53).

FSU tried valiantly to rebound one final time but Bradford made 7-of-8 free throws inside the final 30 seconds to hold off any charge.

FSU finished the season 19-8 overall.
