Jennifer Johnstone Named Head Field Hockey Coach

FROSTBURG, Md. - Jennifer Johnstone was named the 14th head coach in the history of the Frostburg State field hockey program as announced by Director of Athletics Troy A. Dell, Friday.

Johnstone takes over an FSU squad that is coming off one of best runs in the program’s history as the Bobcats have posted 35 wins over the past three years, including a trip to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament in 2008.

“I am proud to join the athletic department and am thankful for the opportunity that Troy Dell has given me,” stated Johnstone. “Frostburg is a great place with some talented field hockey student-athletes that I am eager to get to know and coach.”

Johnstone comes to Frostburg after serving as the head coach for the field hockey team at Kenyon College during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. While there, she led the Ladies to 18 wins with an appearance in the North Coast Athletic Conference championship game in 2008.

Prior to her stint with Kenyon, she served as assistant coach for Ohio Wesleyan (2006-08) helping the team to a 10-7 record in 2007, its best finish in eight years.

Johnstone started her collegiate coaching career at the NCAA Division I level, serving as an assistant at both Brown University (2004-06) and Cornell University (2003-04). In her final year at Brown, she helped guide the team to a 9-7 record with three All-Ivy League selections.

Johnstone coaching resume also includes assistant positions with the Futures Region 3 Site E and Futures Region 9 Site A club teams as well as head coach for the Futures for Site 4 State of New York. She has also worked with several camps including Ohio State, Champions Edge, Rhode Island Tidal Waves and Rooftop Camps.

Johnstone is a 2003 graduate of the University if Maine Orono where she was a three-time regional All-American and two-time first-team all-conference selection. She led the Black Bears in scoring twice and was a member of the 2005 and 2006 EPTC New England Fire Olympic Development team.
