Joe Feeley to Throw First Pitch at Philadlephia Phillies Major League Game

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State junior Joseph Feeley will throw out the first pitch of tonight's, April 14 Major League Baseball game between the Washington Nationals and Philiadelphia Phillies in Phildelphia, Pa.

Feeley transfered to Frostburg State University in the Fall of 2009 from Liberty University, where he played on its baseball team for two years. As an incoming junior to FSU, he was looking to help the Bobcats in their 2010 campaign defensively in the outfield at centerfield and at the plate. In his two years with the Flames, Feeley hit .274 in 68 games picking up five doubles, two triples and a home run.

Unfortuntely, the young centerfielder was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Metastatic Ewing's Sarcoma, after feeling pain in his back and sacroiliac joint. Orginially, the pain was thought to have come from a sport injury but several MRI's and tests later, the cancer diagnosis was given.

He is currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, Pa. while undergoing treatments at University of Penn. Though a cancer diagnosis is never a good thing, his outlook is increasing dramatically and the treatments have continued to be successful over the last few months.

It is McDonald’s Night at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philadelphia and they have asked Feeley to represent them on the mound. The game time start is at 7:05 pm, though the first pitch will come shortly before hand.

A full follow-up release will be made tomorrow following tonight's game.
