WEXFORD, Pa. - Junior
Ramon Gutierrez (Gilbert, Ariz./West Ferris Secondary School (Gilbert CC)) captured the conference title for No. 2 singles as the Frostburg State men’s tennis team finished third at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships this weekend.
Penn State Behrend took home the title with 22 points while PSA was second with 19 and FSU finished third with 11 points. Franciscan picked up the fourth-place finish (6), followed by Pitt-Bradford in fifth (3) and Pitt-Greensburg (2) in sixth.
Gutierrez captured his conference win in the No. 2 singles after defeating Steven Dull from PSA with scores of 6-3, 6-1. In the first round, he won against Calvin McAlee from Pitt-Bradford (6-4, 6-0) while defeating Franciscan's Andrew Straub in the second round (6-4, 6-4) to advance to the finals against Dull.
Sophomore
Michael Stevenson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) took home the runner-up title in the No. 1 singles competition. He defeated Nick Navarre from Penn State Altoona in the semifinals (7-5, 6-2) to advance to the finals against PSB's Elliot Blackstone. Blackstone picked up the victory against Stevenson in the finals with scores of 7-6(2), 6-0.
The Bobcats finish their season with 9-6 overall record and a 6-4 record in the AMCC.
