ERIE, Pa. – The Frostburg State baseball split its Saturday afternoon double-header against Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, Pitt-Bradford, taking the first game 13-6 but dropping the second 5-2.

Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown)) led the offensive attack in the first game for the Bobcats (25-9, 13-3) collecting four hits as every starter picked up at least one in the game.
FSU scored early and often opening the game with a run in the top of the first. Junior
Daniel Heatwole (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby (Hagerstown)) doubled and was brought home on Greene’s first single of the game.
The Bobcats added eight more runs in the top of the second to take a 9-0 lead over the Panthers (17-19, 10-8). With the bases loaded, senior
Andrew Derr (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick) started the scoring in the second with a two-run single to bring home juniors
Corey Carr (McHenry, Md./Northern Garrett (Garrett)) and
Rich Schuler (Wilmington, Del./Caravel Academy (Cecil)). Heatwole continued the hitting with a RBI-single to allow sophomore
Shane Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) to cross the plate and put runners on the corners. Greene singled for his second hit and RBI of the game as Derr scored the Bobcats fifth run of the game. Senior
Matt Ridenour (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown (Sheperd)) hit the third RBI-single in a row for FSU to score Heatwole. With two runners on, senior
Joe Garrity (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) sent the ball over the outfield fence to clear the bases and give the Bobcats a 9-0 lead after just two innings.
The Bobcats put two more runs on the scoreboard in the top of the third with a two-run homerun from Greene, his third hit and third and fourth RBI of the game, helping Frostburg State to an 11-0 lead.
Heatwole had a RBI-double in the top of the fifth that scored Derr and gave FSU the 12-0 lead after four and a half innings of baseball.
The Panthers scored their first runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth, picking up four runs on four hits and cutting the FSU lead to 12-4 after five innings.
Both teams score in the final inning of the game, the Bobcats putting one run on the board on a sacfly from Ridenour to bring home Derr. The Panthers answered with two runs on four hits, but could not overcome FSU for the final score of 13-6.
Senior
Greg Beachy (Grantville, Md./Northern Garrett) got the win for the Bobcats giving up just four runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work while striking out nine and only walking one batter. Beachy is now 7-2 on the season.
Although FSU struck first in the second game, Heatwole scoring on a sacfly from Ridenour after reaching on an error by the second baseman, the Bobcats were not able to hold onto the lead as the Panthers took the second game 5-2.
Pitt-Bradford used a four-run second inning to overtake the Bobcats as they scored four runs on just three hits, including a three-run single. BRF lead 4-1 after two.
FSU scored its last run of the afternoon in the top of the third as Heatwole reached base again on an error and got to second on a passed ball. Greene reached first on another Panther error that allowed Heatwole to score.
The Panthers scored the last run of the ball game in the bottom of the fourth on a sacfly from their right fielder.
Ridenour suffered the loss for the Bobcats evening out to 3-3 on the season, giving up five runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out seven in 6.0 innings.
Greene finished the day going 5-for-8 with five RBIs, two doubles and a homerun and is currently the single-season leader in doubles with 21.
The Bobcats return to the action on Tuesday, April 27 as they host AMCC opponent Mt. Aloysius at Bob Wells Field at 1:00 pm.
