Thomas Qualifies for NCAA Division III Nationals at Elliston Invitational

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Sophomore David Thomas qualified for NCAA Division III Nationals in the long jump as the Frostburg State men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Elliston Invitational, Saturday. 

Meet Results

Thomas captured first-place in the long jump with a NCAA Division III Automatic qualifying mark of 7.38 meters. Thomas also place second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.86, qualifying for ECAC Championships in both the long jump and the 100-meter dash.

Junior Emily Furr (Damascus, Md./Poolesville) finished in fourth-place in the triple jump, hitting the provisional NCAA qualifying mark for the third time this season. Furr also tied for fourth-place in the high jump (1.59 meters) and qualified for ECAC Championships in both the triple jump and the high jump.

Junior Amy Brennan (Fort Washington, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) captured fifth-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.45 while finishing in sixth-place in the 400-meter dash (1:01.13).

In the 10,000-meter run, senior Christina Aumand (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) placed third (41:59.33) and junior Jessica O'Neil (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) finished in fourth-place with a time of 42:08.17.

Joining Furr in the field events was junior Danielle Wivell-Wagner(Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) who captured 12th-place in both the discus throw (31.36 meters) and the javelin throw (21.16 meters).

On the men's side, senior Tarik Muhammad (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) finished in sixth-place in the 400-meter dash with an ECAC Championship qualifying time of 49.84.

Sophomore Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mt. Ridge) captured FSU's only other first-place finish of the day in the 5,000-meter run when he crossed the line with a time of 15:44.21.

In the field events for the men, freshman Christian Smith (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) finished in 12th-place in the shot put with a mark of 12.28 meters while senior Aaron Scanlon (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk) captured 11th-place in the javelin throw (39.06 meters).

Sophomores Sean Wright (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen), Markese Hayden (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) and Charles Jacobs (Baltimore, Md./Aberdeen) joined Muhammad in the men's 4x400-meter relay to finish with a time of 3:21.02. Muhammad split an amazing 47.6 in the event for FSU.

The FSU track & field teams are back in action at the Tuppeny Last Chance at Swarthmore, Pa. on May 10th.
