FROSTBURG, Md. – After an exciting season in which the Frostburg State baseball team tied the second most wins in school history with 32, the Bobcats fell to Penn State Behrend in the final championship game 8-3 after a 17-4 victory in the first game to force a tie-breaker for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament crown.

The Bobcats (32-13) started their day off with a 17-4 victory over the Lions (29-14). After giving up two runs in the top of the first on a two-run shot from Josh Fyffe the FSU pitching staff settled down and the bats came alive. Senior
Matt Ridenour (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown (Shepherd)) singled to left field to score junior
Daniel Heatwole (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby (Hagerstown) and cut the Lions' lead to 2-1. The Bobcats added three more in the second and another one in the third to take the lead 5-2.
The Lions answered with a run in the top of the fourth and the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4 but were not able to score after the fifth inning. FSU put up nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the game. Heatwole walked to lead off the inning and junior
Matt Greene (Westminster, Md./South Carroll (Hagerstown)) doubled down the left field line to put runners in scoring position for Ridenour. Ridenour hit an infield single to first base to bring home Heatwole and move Greene to third. Senior
Joe Garrity (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) hit into a fielder's choice to score Greene. Sophomore
Doug Anuszewski (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) doubled to left center to bring home Garrity. Classmate
Adam Summerfelt (Gambrills, Md./Archbishop Spalding) singled to left center to score Anuszewski and force a pitching change. Junior
Rich Schuler (Wilmington, Del./Caravel Academy (Cecil) singled home junior
Scott Wilson (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and then stole second to put runners in scoring position for Heatwole. Heatwole walked to load the bases. Greene found a pitch he liked and drove it down the right field line for a grandslam homerun to bring his RBI total to five. With the RBIs in the game, Greene took over as single-season RBI leader for the Bobcats with 60.
Frostburg State added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to finish the scoring in the game on three hits and a wild pitch.
Junior
Spenser Madsen (Easton, Md./St. Michaels) picked up the win for FSU going just 1.0 innings giving up only three hits.
Frostburg State could not overcome Penn State Behrend in the second game and dropped the championship game 8-3. The Lions scored first in the top of the third on a RBI double from Ryan Liddle. They added another run in the top of the fourth on three hits including an one-run single.
FSU tied the game at two a piece in the bottom of the seventh on two hits and a Lion error. Schuler singled to leftcenter to score Summerfelt who led off the inning reaching on an error by the short stop. Heatwole grounded out to third base and scored sophomore
Shane Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus). The Lions answered right back and put up six runs in the top of the eighth to secure their win. FSU started to rally in the bottom of the eighth with a lead-off double from Garrity who came around to score when Anuszewski reached on an error by the third baseman but could not overtake the Lions' lead.
Junior
Britton Quayle (Severna Park, Md./Severa Park (Anne Arnudel CC)) suffered the loss for the Bobcats, his first of the season, giving up four runs, two earned on three hits and one walk.
Greene went 4-for-5 in the first game with two doubles and a homerun, five RBIs and two runs scored. The second baseman now holds seven FSU single season records including runs scored (60), hits (78), doubles (24), homeruns (14), RBIs (60), extra basehits (40) and total bases (148) to finish the season.
Frostburg State ends its season with a 32-13 overall record and a 16-4 AMCC record and was named regular season champions and tournament runners up and is waiting a chance at the NCAA tournament with an at large bid.
