Former FSU All-American Brian Leiter

FROSTBURG, Md. - Former Frostburg State All-American runner Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scot Key) recently met the U.S.A. Track & Field (USATF) National Championships 'B' standard in the 1,500-meter run at the American Milers Club High Performance Series meet in Indianapolis, Ind.

Leiter, a four-time All-American for the Bobcat track & field team, met the 'B' standard time with a 3:44.18 and fifth-place finish in the second section of the 1,500-meter race. The 'B' standard time is 3:45.00 while the 'A' standard to automatically qualify for the championships is 3:41.20.

Leiter's time is roughly equivalent to a 4:02 mile and the 'B' standard is similar to provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

Last spring, Leiter became FSU's first-ever All-American in the 1,500-meter run (3:53.68) at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor National Championships after finishing third in the finals. Leiter holds the school record (3:48.47) and was a three-time Mason-Dixon Conference champion in the 1,500-meters.
