BETHANY, W.Va. - Bethany College's Justin Wilkinson scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute to send the Bison to a 1-0 victory over Frostburg State in season opening men's soccer action, Wednesday.

Box Score

Both teams had plenty of chances to score before the 89th minute as the two teams combined for 26 shots. Bethany (1-0) finished with 14, including 10 in the second half. The Bobcats (0-1) had 12 and held a 7-4 edge in the opening period.

Wilkinson checked into the game at 80:47 and less than eight minutes later, scored on the game's final shot off a free kick at 88:09.

FSU sophomore forwards Shawn Baker (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) and Dillon Muise (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) led the Bobcats with two shots each. Senior keeper Stephen Cavallo (Charlotte, N.C./East Lincoln) made four saves in net while suffering the loss.

"I'm proud of our work rate today and the way our young guys stepped up when a few of our starters had to leave the game due to injuries," said ninth year head coach Keith Byrnes. "We had enough chances to score goals we just didn't finish."

Frostburg State hosts the FSU Tournament this weekend at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats host Wilmington on Friday in the second game of the round at 7:30 pm.
