FROSTBURG, Md. - Sophomore
Amanda Wharton (Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to hand the Frostburg State women's soccer team a 2-0 season-opening win against Eastern Mennonite, Wednesday evening.

FSU (1-0) had 19 shots in the first 45 minutes while dominating the defense and limiting the Royals (0-1) to just one. Wharton led the shooting with six shots in the first, nine total for the game.
The early part of the second period was once again dominated by defensive play until the 73:17 mark when Wharton netted her goal off a stellar pass from freshman

Taylor Jenkins (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) added an insurance goal at 89:10 to put the Bobcats up 2-0 at the final horn.
The Bobcats outshot the Royals 32-2 and had the edge on corner kicks, 10-1. Senior
Lauren Russell (Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) was second on the team behind Wharton with four shots on the night followed by sophomore
Liz Seligman (Rockville, Md./St. Johns College) with three.

Michelle Buckmaster (St. Leonard, Md./Calvert) posted one save while Royal goalkeeper Abby Diffenbach recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Frostburg State is back on the field at the Maryland Soccerplex on Saturday, Sept. 4 when it hosts Catholic at 4:00 pm in Germantown, Md.
