FSU Cross Country Teams Opened 2010 Season at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State men’s cross country team opened its 2010 season with a third-place showing at the Galen E. Piper Alumni meet at Shippensburg University, Saturday. The FSU women’s team did not have enough runners to score but placed all four runners in the top 30.

Host Shippensburg captured first place on both the men’s and women’s side. The Shippensburg alumni men’s team finished second followed by FSU.

The Bobcat men’s team had its four top runners finish inside the top 30, led junior Gavin Caupp (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge). He finished 16th in 20:44.

The Bobcats also had three runners finish between 22nd and 29th place. Junior Jesse Henderson (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) was 22nd in 21:21 while freshman Patrick Mead (Woodbine, Md./Century) finished 24th in 21:25 in his first collegiate meet.

Junior Charles Jacobs (Baltimore, Md./Aberdeen) rounded out the top four runners with a time of 22:06 and a 29th place finish. Senior Kevin Wright (Silver Spring, Md./Oakton) was 31st in 22:29.

Finishing sixth through eighth on the men’s team were freshman Steve Henderson (Elkton, Md./North East), sophomore Max Maier (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area Senior) and junior Nicholas Weddle (Baltimore, Md./Northeast).

Henderson was 33rd (23:51), Maier finished 34th (24:10) and Weddle crossed the finish line 35th (24:25).

Junior Anne Patron (Baltimore, Md./Dulaney) powered the women’s team with a sixth place finish in 15:54. It’s the second-straight year that she has finished 10th or better at the meet.

Senior #Jessica O’Neil# (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) was 16th in 17:33 and freshman Kim Adams (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) was 18th in 17:41.

Freshman Jen Bower (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) rounded out the top four for the women with a 23rd place finish (19:19).

The Frostburg State men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they compete in the Dickinson College Long-Short meet.
