FROSTBURG, Md. - The 2012 Frostburg State football schedule has been released and features five home games, two opponents that appeared in the 2011 NCAA Playoffs and the regular season finale, the 14th Annual Regents Cup at Bobcat Stadium.

For the fourth consecutive season, Frostburg will face Geneva (4-6) in its season opener. The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 1, and marks the first night game at Bobcat Stadium since FSU and GC met on Sept. 4, 2010. Last fall, FSU defeated the Golden Tornadoes, 34-21.

Frostburg hits the road for the second game of the season and will visit familiar foe Waynesburg (5-5) on Sept. 8, for a 1:00 p.m. start. It will be the 40th meeting with Waynesburg, the most for any Frostburg opponent throughout its 51 years with varsity football. The Yellow Jackets claimed a 41-7 win over FSU in 2010.

The Bobcats remain on the road for their third game of the season as they visit Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, Sept. 15. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two and the Spartans are coming off a 9-1 record in 2011.

Frostburg opens Empire 8 action when it welcomes Ithaca to Bobcat Stadium on Sept. 22 at 1:00 p.m. Ithaca escaped with a 13-10 victory over the Bobcats last fall and leads the all-time series 3-0.

After a bye week in late September, the Bobcats hit the road for two straight weeks to open the month of October.

Frostburg travels to Hartwick on Saturday, Oct. 6, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. The Bobcats downed the Hawks (2-8) in the first-ever meeting last fall, 35-28.

For the second road contest, the Bobcats visit Utica on Saturday Oct. 13, at noon. Like Hartwick, FSU defeated Utica (5-5), 44-24, in the first meeting between the schools last fall.

Frostburg returns to Bobcat Stadium for the final two games in October.

October 18-21 is Leadership & Homecoming weekend. In the middle of the festivities, FSU hosts Buffalo State (5-5) on Saturday, Oct. 20. The Bobcats and the Bengals were once conference opponents in the Atlantic Central Football Conference and haven't faced one another since 2005. This fall mark this first season for Buffalo State as a member of the Empire 8.

A visit from St. John Fisher rounds out the month of October as the Cardinals come to Frostburg on Saturday, Oct. 27. SJFC finished 10-3 last fall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Playoffs.

Frostburg opens the month of November with its final road contest of the season. FSU will battle Alfred on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1:00 p.m. Last season, FSU emerged with a 54-53, double-overtime victory in the highest scoring game in program history.

Rounding out the regular season will be the annual in-state rivalry contest between Frostburg and Salisbury. This year marks the 14th Annual Regents Cup game as the two teams have met in their regular-season finales for the last 13 years. SU, which has claimed the last eight Regents Cup titles, finished 11-2 in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.

Last season, the Bobcats finished 4-6 overall and 3-4 in their first year in the Empire 8. FSU will look to carry that momentum into 2012.
