Women Looking to Shock CAC Powers

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women’s track & field team has improved its finish in each of its previous two Capital Athletic Conference Championship meets and the Bobcats will look to continue that trend this coming weekend at the outdoor championships.

FSU finished fifth at the outdoor meet last spring and earned fourth place at the inaugural indoor championships this past February. Frostburg will have the friendly confines of Bobcat Stadium as a bonus as FSU hosts the championships on Saturday and Sunday.

The Bobcat women are currently ranked in the top-five in eight different events and have finished as a team in the top-10 in five meets this spring.

Sophomore Samantha Taylor is the conference leader in the pole vault with a height 3.20 meters. She needs to add just 0.05 meters to her height to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Taylor, who has finished in the top-five in the pole vault in all five meets this spring, won the CAC Indoor title and set a school record with a vault of 3.20 meters.

Taylor will also compete in the 100-meter hurdles. She is ninth in the league standings after posting a 16.88 at the Mason-Dixon Invitational at Gettysburg College.

Sophomore Morgan Carroll heads into the championship with a pair of top-five rankings. She holds the second fastest time in the CAC in the 400-meter dash this season. Carroll opened the outdoor season with an ECAC qualifying time of 59.71 at the Maroon Invitational at Roanoke College. Carroll is also third in the high jump after clearing 1.57 meters at the Juniata Invite.

Freshman Alexis Bush landed inside the top-five in the league in two events after an outstanding meet at Goucher in early April. Bush is second in the league in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 5.21 meters. She is also fourth in the 100-meter dash in 13.13.

Senior Amy Brennan is fifth in the CAC in the 200-meter with a time of 26.89. She has three top-five finishes in the event this spring. Brennan is seventh in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.06.

Senior distance specialist Anne Patron is second in the league in the 10,000-meter run in 41:47.68.
Patron is no stranger to competing at the highest level in CAC competition as she finished second at the cross country championships in the fall.

Sophomore Samantha Ebersole cracks the top-10 in the pole vault as well with a height of 2.60 meters. She finished sixth at the CAC indoor championships with the same height.

Freshman Christina Smith rounds out the top-10 entries for the Bobcats. She is currently fifth in the javelin after hitting 29.42 meters at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University.
