Edwards Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State junior goalkeeper Maggie Edwards has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District II First Team, as recently announced by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA).

The District II region includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter of key reserve, carry a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore athletic status at his/her current institution. As a first team selection, Edwards will move onto the Academic All-America ballot with the national team slated for release in early June.

Edwards has been a three-year starter in goal and is currently the active leader among all NCAA Division III players in saves with an impressive 697.

A Second Team All-Capital Athletic Conference honoree last fall, Edwards led the conference with 294 saves, more than double the next closest player. She stopped 10 or more shots in 14 of 20 games in 2011, including a school record 33 against Drew University. Edwards made 20 or more saves in five games and stopped 128 shots in CAC action.

Off the field of play, Edwards carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average in psychology, was a member of the 2011 CAC All-Academic Team and has been named to the Dean’s List in all five of her completed semesters at FSU.

The All-District selection is the second academic award for Edwards since the conclusion of the fall season as she was named to the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) collegiate national academic squad.

The Bobcats field hockey team finished the fall 2011 season with a 5-15 overall and 1-5 in the CAC.
