FREDERICK, Md. – The Frostburg State University men’s and women’s swimming teams each suffered a loss to Hood College, Saturday, in the first action for the Bobcats in the 2013 portion of their schedules. The FSU men fell 120-59, while the women suffered a 135-56 setback.

Despite the loss, the Bobcats took home two victories and 13 runner-up finishes on the afternoon.
Freshman Kaitlyn Donch led both Bobcat teams with three individual second place finishes. She was runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:46.10), the 500-yard freestyle (5:46.22) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.10).
The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Maci Quintanilla, graduate student Autumn Phillips, sophomore Jaclyn Franzak and sophomore Meredith Johnson opened the afternoon with a second-place finish in 2:05.78.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Franzak, Johnson, sophomore Sara King and sophomore Elizabeth Jarrell finished off the meet on the women’s side with a second place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:55.94).
Individually, Jarrell took second in the 50-yard freestyle (28.24), while Franzak was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:43.20).
The Frostburg men’s team finished the day with two victories and five runner-up finishes.
Freshman Jonathan Shepard had a hand in both wins. He individually grabbed the title in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.72) and he combined with senior Caleb Stair, senior Jeffrey Lewis and sophomore Vincent Faiella to earn a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.44) in the meet’s first event.
Shepard, Stair, Lewis and junior Jesse Gregory capped the afternoon with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.25.
Individually, Gregory led the men’s side with two runner-up showings in the 100-yard freestyle (56.43) and the 200-yard IM (2:15.72). Stair added a second place effort in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.89), while Lewis was second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.51).
The Bobcats return to the pool on Wednesday when they host Bethany (W.Va.) at 6:00 pm.
