FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State posted seven wins and nearly 30 top-five finishes at the Bobcat Invitational, Saturday. Ten different Bobcats had a hand in the seven wins in the only home meet of the spring season for Frostburg.
Junior Matt Collins paced the men’s squad with a total of three wins. Individually, Collins took home the 400-meter dash title in 50.91 and helped two relay teams to wins.
He opened relay action by helping the 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Charles Lyles, Greg Alexander and senior Jason Jackson to a win with an ECAC Championship time of 43.74.
Collins also aided the 4x400-meter relay team to a victory. In the meet’s final track event, Collins joined freshman Sterling Hardy, sophomores Anthony Hayden and Devin Francillon for a win in 3:28.32.
Individually, Jackson took home a win in the 100-meter dash (11.49) and third in the 200 in 23.50.
The Bobcats also posted three wins in the field events.
Senior Christian Smith took home a win in the shot put with a toss of 13.75 meters. He followed that up with third place in both the hammer throw (42.96 meters) and discus (36.58 meters).
Sophomore Seth Stine picked a win in the javelin with a distance of 51.89 meters. Freshman Michael Cronauer rounded out the wins with a first-place finish in the high jump (1.83 meters) and a runner-up showing in the triple jump (12.77 meters).
Sophomore Curtis Buckland earned a pair of runner-up finishes with a second-place effort in both the shot put (12.36 meters) and discus (42.65 meters).
Following the success of the 4x400-meter relay team, Hayden posted second in the 800-meter run (2:00.38). Junior Pat Mead earned second in the 1,500-meter run in 4:15.30. Rounding out the second-place finishes were Alexander in the 200-meter dash (23.43), Lyles in the long jump (6.25 meters) and junior Trey Davis in the hammer throw (44.26 meters).
Frostburg State returns to the track this weekend at the Messiah Invitational & Multi Events.
