ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Frostburg State University football team had three student-athletes named to the Empire 8 Athletic Conference President's List for the Spring 2013 semester, Monday.
Bobcat seniors Brendon Blanchette and Anthony Young, along with freshman Aaron Turner were among more than 670 student-athletes from the Empire 8's nine full-time members and seven affiliate institutions that were recognized for their work on the field and in the classroom.
Blanchette, who earned President's List honors in the Fall 2012 semester, finished his senior season ranked second in the league in total tackles (107). A 2012 USA Football News Division III Preseason All-American, Blanchette was a two-time All-Empire 8 selection. In the classroom, Blanchette posted a 4.0 GPA and is an information technology major.
Young, a three-time all-conference second team selection, hauled in 46 receptions for 610 yards and four touchdowns in his final season. He capped his four-year career second in school history in receptions (179), third in receiving yards (2,226) and seventh in touchdowns (14)
The Empire 8 President's List award is the third academic honor of the year for Young, who earned a 3.8 GPA in art & design during the spring. He also garnered 2012 Capital One Academic All-District and National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Award honors.
Turner, who finished his first year with the Bobcats in 2012-13, earned a 3.78 GPA in physical education.
The trio helped the Bobcats to a 3-7 overall record and a 1-6 league mark last fall.
To be named to the President's List, a student-athlete must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher.
