FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Pablo Torrano scored the game's only goal late in double overtime to propel the Frostburg State men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Grove City at the FSU Tournament, Friday night.
Box Score
Torrano chased down a long ball at the Grove City (0-1) 18-yard box, and after a couple of dribbles, he slid a left-footed shot past a diving keeper for the exciting finish the home crowd was waiting for.
Torrano's late goal with 1:28 to play helped save the Bobcats (1-0) from a draw in its season opener, but it wasn't all that easy. The Wolverines outshot FSU 20-14, including a 19-7 edge through two halves and the first overtime.
Following a red card against Grove City late in the first overtime frame, FSU dialed up the pressure to the tune of seven shots in the second OT. Torrano scored on his fourth shot of the contest that propelled the Bobcats to their third-straight opening day win.
Senior Drew Hock stopped eight shots for Frostburg in his second career start in net. After facing 18 shots during regulation, the Bobcat defense gave Hock some relief, allowing one shot in each extra session.
Grove City keeper Brenden Alfery made six saves before surrendering the game winner with 1:28 to play.
FSU returns to the field tomorrow when it faces Pitt-Greensburg on the second day of the FSU Tournament at 2:30 pm.
