CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Frostburg State men's track and field team opened up the 2015 outdoor season at the Cal U Early Bird Invitational with eight athletes finishing in the top-10 in their respected events.
Full Meet ResultsThe Bobcats were led by junior JR Lowery's ECAC-qualifying toss in the shot put (15.18m, 49' 9.75"), good for third place.
The senior class had a great meet as four seniors placed in the top-ten in their events. Seth Stine added a fourth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 49.30 meters (161' 9"), while Chris Rickell placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters (6' 0.75"), missing the ECAC-qualifying length by just 0.08 meters. Devin Francillon took eighth in the javelin (46.85m, 153' 8") and Giovanni Fitch placed ninth in the hammer throw (38.03m, 124' 9").
Sophomore Sterlyn Elder brought home two top-ten finishes in the 100-meter dash (6
th – 11.17) and the 200-meter dash (9
th – 22.62), just barely missing the ECAC-qualifying time in both events. Classmate Xavier Alvarez placed 10
th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:52.43.
Rounding out the top-ten finishes was freshman Matthew Deb with a ninth-place discus toss of 37.16 meters (121' 11").
Frostburg heads to Susquehanna University next Saturday, March 28 to compete at the Jim Taylor Invitational with competition beginning at 9:30 am.
