FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State will head to Ross Memorial Stadium in Washington, Pa. for the 2015 NCAA Division III Baseball Mideast Regional from Wednesday, May 13 through Sunday, May 16. The top-seeded Bobcats will open up the double-elimination, six-team tournament against host and sixth-seeded Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday at noon.
Frostburg State BobcatsThe Bobcats will be making their sixth appearance in the tournament, finished the regular season with a 37-6 record, and captured their second Capital Athletic Conference Title in the last five years. Frostburg is 7-3 in its last 10 games and is outscoring opponents 110-65 over that stretch. The Bobcats finished the regular season with a .317 batting average and averaged 8.4 runs per game. The pitching staff holds a 2.68 ERA on the year while holding opponents to a .234 batting average.
The Bobcats are led by head coach Guy Robertson who is in his eighth year at the helm of FSU. Robertson has guided the Bobcats to an FSU record of 37 wins this season and is 219-113 since taking over the position prior to the 2008 season. This is the second CAC Championship and second trip to the NCAA regional for Robertson's Bobcats and the first since 2011. Robertson's 219 wins are the second-most at Frostburg for a head coach.
Washington & Jefferson PresidentsThe Presidents serve as the host of the 2015 Mideast Regional and earned the Presidents' Athletic Conference automatic bid with a 17-5 victory over Thomas More in the conference title game last weekend. W&J finished the regular season with a 28-15 record. The Presidents are making their fifth trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament. W&J is led by head coach Jeff Mountain who is 360-200-1 all time at Washington & Jefferson. The Presidents boast a .304 batting average and a 3.94 ERA as a staff.
The SeriesFrostburg and W&J are familiar foes and have faced each eight times over the last seven years with the series tied at 4-4. FSU won the most recent meeting as the Bobcats defeated W&J 5-0 on April 28 of this year.
Bobcat NotesFSU set a new school record for wins in a season with 37 ... the Bobcats earned their first national ranking under Robertson on March 10 and have been ranked each week, including as high as second for the last three weeks ... senior Nick Walker is leading the Bobcats with an .382 batting average ... Walker leads the team with 23 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI games ... Walker is currently riding a 16-game on base streak ... the Bobcats boast three starting pitchers with a sub-2.00 ERA, Bennett Schiltz (1.38), Clayton Freimuth (1.68) and Greg Schneider (1.84) ... Frostburg leads the nation with a .977 fielding percentage and is second in the country with 43 home runs this year.
