DANBURY, Conn. – The 24
th-ranked Frostburg football team has earned a spot in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships and will play 22
nd-ranked St. John Fisher on Saturday at 5:00 pm in the Asa S. Bushnell Bowl Game.
The ECAC announced it six-bowl matchup on Monday at 12:00 p.m. in a live webstream and the ECAC has termed its championship weekend #ECACD3FBFEST. All six bowl games are being played at historic Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
The Bobcats enter their matchup with the Cardinals (8-2) with plenty of momentum having won eight-straight ballgames to finish the regular season at 9-1 overall. Frostburg capped its regular season on Saturday with a 21-17 win over Salisbury in the 18
th Annual Regents Cup Game.
The victory over the Sea Gulls handed the Bobcats a share of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Title in just their second year in the league. The showdown with St. John Fisher will be FSU's eighth appearance in an ECAC Bowl game and first since the 2005 season.
Frostburg currently boasts one of the top defensive units in Division III as it enters Saturday's matchup ranked seventh in total defense (231.7). FSU is also fourth in team passing efficiency defense (87.94), fourth in team tackles for loss (10.1), fourth in passing yards allowed (130.3) and 11
th in scoring defense (12.8).
This past Saturday, Frostburg held Salisbury to just 293 yards in offense, 153 on the ground and 17 points. The Gulls entered the matchup as the NJAC leader in scoring offense (40.6), total offense (473.2) and rushing offense (384.4).
St. John Fisher enters the bowl game with an 8-2 overall record following a 38-17 loss in the Empire 8 Championship to Alfred. The Cardinals opened the 2016 campaign with a 6-0 record and ascended to #14 in the D3football.com poll before suffering their first loss in mid-October.
While Frostburg's strength lies on defense, SJFC is 76
th in the country in total offense, averaging 417.8 yards per contest behind the nation's 33
rd ranked passing attack (288.9). The Cardinals also average 36.2 points per game.
Frostburg and St. John Fisher are no strangers to one another as the two schools faced off as members of the Empire 8 from 2011-2014 prior to FSU joining the NJAC. The Cardinals, however, lead the all-time series against Frostburg at 5-0.
Of the six bowl games, the Asa. S Bushnell Bowl features arguably the top two teams in Frostburg and St. John Fisher as the two have combined for 17 wins. The Presidents Bowl features Washington & Jefferson (8-2) and College at Brockport (7-3) and those two schools boast 15 wins.

Tickets - FSU fans and spectators are encouraged to purchase tickets through the Frostburg department of athletics and the school's ticket allotment. Fans can call 301-687-4462 to order tickets starting tomorrow from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, fans can order their tickets from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Tickets in advance of the contest are $17.00 each or $20.00 at the gate.
