Harris Wins Javelin, FSU Women Take Sixth At CAC Championships

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's track & field team placed sixth overall in the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships, Saturday afternoon. FSU sophomore Zoe Harris was the Bobcats only individual winner, as she placed first overall in the javelin throw.

Overall, the Bobcats finished with 29 points for sixth place.

Harris's distance of 37.79 meters (124 feet) was an ECAC mark and her second-best distance this season. She won the event by .4 meters over Salisbury's Shannon Gilligan. Harris also finished 14th in the shot put with a distance of 9.38m (32 ft. 3in.).

Sophomore Kayla Truesdel posted three individual top-ten finishes as well as one relay top-ten finish over the Championship weekend. She placed second in the 100-meter dash with a season-best and ECAC time of 12.37 seconds. She also ran to a fourth place finish and ECAC-qualifying time in the 200-meter dash (25.48) and a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash in 58.92, also an ECAC cut.

Truesdel was also a part of the fifth place 4x400 meter relay team of junior Amy Virostek, freshman Samantha Gittere and sophomore Destiny Logan. The relay finished with a time of 4:15.78.
Virostek, Gittere, Logan and freshman Raynisha Johnson ran to a sixth-place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 54.46 seconds.

Virostek completed her championship weekend with an eighth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:10.85. Logan ran the 400-meter dash for the Bobcats and finished 10th overall with a time of 1:01.75.

Along with Harris, three other Bobcat women placed in the top-ten in the throwing events.  Sophomore Elaine Saxton finished 10th in the javelin throw with a distance of 23.75m (77ft. 11in.). Freshman Holly Van Wie finished the weekend with a 10th place finish in the shot put (10.06m/33ft. 0.25in.) and a fifth place finish in the hammer throw (37.48m/122ft. 11in.). Junior Tierra Cooke threw 29.12m (95 ft. 6in.) in the hammer throw to finish in 10th place.

In the triple jump, freshman Heather Martin finished eighth overall with a distance of 8.81m (28ft. 11in.).

Next up, the Bobcats will travel to Shippensburg and Gallaudet Saturday, April 30th for meets starting at 9:00 am and 9:30 am, respectively.
