FROSTBURG, Md. – The 12
th-ranked Frostburg State baseball team endured a 14-0 loss to Penn State Harrisburg, Tuesday afternoon, in the opening game of the 2016 CAC Tournament for both teams.
The top-seeded Bobcats fall to 23-9 overall on the season with the loss and will face fifth-seeded Christopher Newport at 9:00 am on Thursday morning in the Championship Weekend opening game. The Lions improve to 18-20 overall and will face fourth-seeded Wesley on Thursday at 12:30 pm.
Bobcat senior Anderson Burgess had things rolling on the mound in the early going against the Lions. He struckout the first seven batters he faced and didn't allow a base runner until the fourth inning.
Penn State Harrisburg scored its first run in the fourth frame on a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, PSH plated eight runs for a commanding 9-0 lead.
The visitors tacked on a single run in the sixth and two more runs in both the eighth and ninth frames.
Burgess tossed 4.1 innings and fanned eight batters, but suffered the loss after allowing six earned runs. Senior Logan Hunt and freshman Blake Clift each added two strikeouts in relief work.
Seniors Jamaal Windom and Teron Tyre, juniors Rob Wetherbee and Cody Harman and freshman Mike Centrella each posted a hit for Frostburg. It's the first time the Bobcats have been shutout since late in the 2014 season.
